Lilyfield House

Lilyfield House

This renovation of this inner city terrace creates a quiet sanctuary to the rear of the dwelling and seamlessly blends the older portion of the house with the new. The renovation involved:

  • Demolition of the dilapidated rear portion of the house
  • Creation of rear lane access for off street parking
  • Open plan living area with a new kitchen, bathroom and complimentary outdoor areas
  • Timber decking allowing for a smooth transition from the indoor to outdoor area
  • Built-in seating with storage under
  • BBQ area and a water feature
  • Good cross ventilation with the inclusion of high ceilings, clerestory and louvre windows

The design makes the most of a small site with a small internal courtyard allowing light and ventilation to reach deep into the terrace plan. Cedar cladding was salvaged from demolition of the existing dwelling and reused on the exterior. An old bathtub was recycled as a fishpond, built into the decking and filled with waterlilies and other aquatic plants. New plant trellises and external lighting were added to screen-off neighbouring properties, achieving a private and reflective outdoor area.
