Nelson Bay

Lilyfield

A modern, contemporary rear addition to an existing Californian Bungalow cottage. Use of mixed materials with render and Hardies Linea Board. The site steps down to the rear allowing a split level home that is not visible from the street. The kitchen wrapps around 3 sides so that a servery area opens out with a bench to the rear yard. The deck is cut down into the yard so the timber deck sits flush and the bi-folding doors have a recesses track. The masterbedroom upstiars has its opwn private balcony, ensuite and Walk-in-robe. The stairwell bring light wih a large skylight and square window. The materials were intended compliments the existing such as the cobblestone against the sandsctone base.

Contemporary Rear Addition

Contemporary Beach House

A contemporary beach house. The angled roof allows sun seep into the plan. Great transition from indoors to outdoors. Concrete kitchen bench top and thermal underfloor heating. Outdoor bath. Concrete flloors. Outdoor bath. Long central deck / walkway linking the studio to the rear. The design incorporates the low scale of the original beach cottage. Outdoor area include recycled doors and timber panelling. The kicthen bench has recyled timber from a cattle sale yard with original numering visiible.

Forest Lodge

Inner city two storey renovation in a heritage conservation area on small block with small garden as entertainment space. Original single storey cottage to the front retain with two storey addition to the rear. A subdued palate creates a calm space in a busy inner city area - makinng the spaces feel larger - built in garden seating and integrated planter beds & garden walls makes the garden area large and more usable.

Cooks Hill

This Cooks Hill beauty, an original brick bungalow the Brown family purchased a few years ago and has been extended with a smart, efficient modern design.

The contrast between the old, the original three-bedroom home at the front, and the new, a spacious indoor-outdoor kitchen that spills onto a courtyard and a parents' bedroom, bathroom and retreat at the rear, is remarkable, yet seamless.
The secret to the success of the project is in the detail. Bespoke original features from the home, which dates to around 1915, were kept, and in some cases, made into features, like the stained glass windows. The brickwork at the front was left intact, imperfections and all. The chipped wood on the front verandah stayed, as did the tiny decorative lions on each side of the front steps. 

The home is now a modern but energy efficient extension, with the high ceiling kitchen featuring north-east facing glass doors and windows offering an oasis of warmth and space.

It was also pivotal to the family to maintain the integrity of the block's 80-year-old Jacaranda, which abuts their new parents' loungeroom at the back of the home. The Jacaranda still wraps around its long-time companion, a crepe myrtle.


Country House

Set in the countryside between Sydney & Newcastle this home consists of several buildings and courtyard spaces wrapped around the pool area and is set in a Chestnut Orchard. The project invlved modifications to the existing farmhouse, extending with a masterbedroom wing and a linking walkway. Key to the design was the site layout and planning that allowed the design to wrap around the pool area. Our extensive experience working on rural properties helping bring a strong master plan for the site layout. The clients wer after an ecclectic, rustic country farmhouse house look.

Islington

Two storey new house in tight Inner City block with metal wall cladding and cement sheet cladding with timber ceiling linings for added warmth. A very urban dwelling that takes advantage of the lot with breakout space to the rear with the ground floor open plan area and additional outdoor space off the media room upstairs. An undercover single car gagae with stacked parking for another carspace out side with stirage hatches along the side fence creating privacy.

Newcastle East

The existing terrace was stripped out and add new basement level with new balcony and spa added. Magical views up and down the coast of Newcastle on each level. The clients wanted a very modern, clean & contemporary look with interiors muted so that the ocean views could take centre stage. All areas look out over the iconic Newcastle Ocean Baths and the Corey Hole & epic ocean views beyond. A very special site to work on require the highest level of finishes and detailing to ensure the house withstands the harsh ocean envorinment well into the future. The footings are super engineered to ensure the house doesn't move an inch as the area is well know for land slip.

Wickham Small House

We approached council to explore what could be possible on this site. As its a higher density area they were agreeable to contravening their controls to allow us a much better outcome. This is a tiny lot with two dwellings built to the boundary on all sides.

Alexandria

A small two storey terrace conversion with a subtle consistent interior design palate, a stiking front entry, complimentary heritage details and a good use of the garage space for laundry / extra storage and an extra entertainment area when needed.

Zen's House

We have helped many of our builders with their own houses. Zen and his wife wanted a bright contemporary home to raise their little boy. With concrete floors and under floor heating.the spaces are colourful and joyful yet robust - backyard even has its own vertical fish farm hidden under a seat.

Newtown project involving the retention of the the two front facades but demolition of a substantial rear portion of the two dwellings and linking the two around a central courtyard & pool area to create a resort style dwelling in the inner city of Sydney.

Our brief was to retain the heritage character of the front of the building while adding a contemporary rear addition and garage.

Modern two storey house approved without going to Council through Complying Development. Contemporary. The light filled rooms with rear and central courtyard and upper level balcony to street off master bedroom create a spacious inner city home tailored to the clients tastes with clever storage detailing throughout. 

Mazi - Chief Barkitect

Greenwich

Tow storey house plus extensive basement and entertainment roof top taking advantage of views over the city. Formed up in concrete and concrete block to base with mixed cladding above. In ground pool, spa and hot tub to come plus solar pergola alfresco area. Rare to see large rooftop entertainment areas approved for single dwellings. We could use a historical DA that had not lapsed to gain approval with a section 96. 

Inner West

A subdivision of an existing block with rear lane access made it possible to build this small courtyard house. The house is very open plan giving it a sense of space. Concrete block walls are built to the boundary.

The rear of this dwelling badly needed a covered area. The new covered deck now functions as an extension to the kitchen for comfortable outdoor dining all year long.

A house set in heavy bush land with bush fire restrictions. The guest and main house are separated by an outdoor entry area with stair leading up to a rooftop 'sky room'. The house is set on two large tanks with a safe room built-in underground.

Fishing Point

Now under construction a lakefront project on Lake Macquarie on a very steep site. An existing boat shed on site was kept and the new luxury house over 3 levels steps up the site with lift access. The high ceiling on the upper floor make sure the gentle breezes and light flow through the open plan living area.
